Full Circle: A Serendipitous Reunion at Saint Therese of Oxbow Lake
At Saint Therese of Oxbow Lake, an unexpected connection between an educator and a priest reveals how kindness endures across generations
Sometimes, Saint Therese becomes the setting for more than just care and community—it becomes a place where lives unexpectedly intertwine in deeply meaningful ways.
When Morganna Moon, director of Clinical Informatics and Education for Saint Therese, arrived early for a meeting at Saint Therese of Oxbow Lake in Brooklyn Park, Minn., she chose a seat near one of the fireplaces—a spot she’d never sat in before. Moments later, Father Bill Green, a resident priest known for his warmth and curiosity, struck up a conversation. What began as small talk quickly turned into something remarkable.
As they compared notes about their hometowns in northern Wisconsin, Morganna mentioned she was from Poplar, near Bayfield. Father Green paused and said, “I used to work for the Moons in Bayfield.”
Morganna smiled in surprise. “I am a Moon,” she replied.
It was the start of a heartfelt discovery. Decades earlier, as a 12-year-old boy in Bayfield, Father Green had worked for Morganna’s great-grandfather—sweeping floors in his barbershop for ten cents an hour and later serving as a deckhand on the family’s trolling boats earning two dollars a day. The Moon family took him under their wing during a formative time in his life, offering kindness, mentorship, and a sense of belonging he deeply cherished.
“They trusted me,” Father Green recalled. “To a boy who didn’t have a father, that meant everything.”
For Morganna, the connection opened a new chapter of understanding about her family. Her father had lost touch with parts of their history. Hearing Father Green’s stories of generosity and integrity revealed a side of the Moons she had never known. When she shared what she’d learned, her father became emotional.
In April 2024, Morganna’s parents visited Oxbow Lake to meet Father Green. The two men—one 66, the other 90—sat together in the library, laughing, reminiscing and realizing how much their lives were intertwined. “Their eyes were twinkling,” Morganna said. “It was like they’d known each other forever.”
The reunion also reminded Morganna of her own roots. “I come from a long line of teachers,” she said. “It struck me that my great-grandfather and grandfather were both mentors who made an impact on others. That’s what drives me too.”
For Father Green, the meeting felt like a blessing that had come full circle. The boy who once found guidance in the Moon family’s kindness now shares that same spirit with others at Saint Therese—offering Mass, listening with compassion, and providing comfort to residents and families with his trademark humility and care.
His story—and Morganna’s—reflect the Heartfelt Purpose at the center of life at Saint Therese: ordinary moments that become extraordinary through connection, compassion, and grace.
Sometimes, the most extraordinary stories begin with something as simple as choosing a seat by the fire.
