A Rich Tradition of Exceptional Care

Saint Therese prides itself on its rich tradition of providing exceptional care for seniors in the Upper Midwest. We have served seniors and their families for more than five decades and have an established history grounded in the Catholic faith and a deep love for our community.

1964
Jerry Choromanski, Fr. Gordon Mycue, Elizabeth Hidding, Sr. Marcelline Jung, OSB, create the vision for Saint Therese care center. A corporation and a board of directors is established and, soon after, approval is granted by the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

1968
Mary Zepp, Saint Therese’s first resident, moves into the New Hope care center on January 9.

1979
Senior apartments open adjacent to the care center. Saint Therese is among the first to provide housing to active, retired seniors dedicated to physical, spiritual and social well-being.

2002
Saint Therese begins an assisted living program meant to allow residents to stay safely independent for as long as possible. A dementia care neighborhood is also opened, offering a comfortable, safe environment for residents who need memory care.

2003
Saint Therese opens the first palliative care unit in the Midwest; designed to provide comfort to residents and their loved ones.

2006
The organization expands into Brooklyn Park, Minnesota as Saint Therese at Oxbow Lake opens its doors. Residents of independent living, assisted living and memory care apartments are delighted by the beautiful, brand-new community.

2011
Saint Therese welcomes its most intimate community in Shoreview, Minnesota: an 8-bed residence focused on hospice and palliative care. The compassionate Saint Therese at St. Odilia team is empowered to enhance quality of life for residents and their families.

2016
Transitional Care by Saint Therese opens on the fourth floor of North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. (This unit was closed in 2022.)

The organization expands again into the east metro as Saint Therese of Woodbury opens, offering a unique senior living experience in a vibrant, active community.

2017
The Redwoods, luxurious senior living apartments, join the Saint Therese of Woodbury community. Located within a short walking distance of the main campus, residents benefit from ample amenities and access to a compassionate continuum of care.

2022
We broke ground on Saint Therese of Corcoran, expanding our mission into the far west metro city of Corcoran. This new community will open in 2024.
2023
For the first time, our mission expanded beyond Minnesota as we took ownership of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Senior Living Community (IHM SLC) in Monroe, Michigan. This is a full continuum of care community with independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and transitional care.

Today
Our founders’ legacy of love continues on through our commitment to our mission: do ordinary things with extraordinary love. We look forward to carrying on this same tradition for decades to come because of the generous support of our volunteers, donors, partners and friends.
